Well since my audio is not uploading right now i thought i would write about my movie clip.  In the opening scene they show the troopers in their uniforms.  You can see actual lines on their uniforms making them stick out more.  Also if you look closely you can see the posters in the background.  Lines always point to the character and in this frame the characters head is right in line with the posters.  Most of the scenes show secondary moments because the troopers are sitting down.  The cinematographer also uses virtual lines when a character is out of frame yet still talking.  The virtual lines are implying that he is looking at the other officers while he is talking but in reality they might not even be there.  A variety of movements are used through the frame such as people walking and moving to get tasks done.  The scenes with the troopers uses a lot of square shapes.  To tell the difference between the captain and the regular troopers the camera moves from medium shots showing the troopers to a close up only focusing on the captain.  I believe they did this to show his dominance and superiority over the other troopers.

Well since my video is not working i decided to write my critque of How To Be Creative by Hugh MacLeod.
This article was helpful in some senses but some of the tips weren't to helpful.  There were three suggestions that I agreed with most the first, Ignore everyone. He states the more original your idea the less help others will be.  This is because no one knows you better than you.  This has helped me in my creative process by ignoring what my friends think.  When i go home over breaks I take acting classes.  My friends think this is funny however i ignore them so I can truly be creative. The second is, Don't try to stand out from a crowd, avoid crowds all together.  This is a good creative suggestion because no one wants to be the person out of a crowd.  If they do get picked they are very lucky considering all the people want the same thing.  However if you avoid crowds all together you can expand on your ideas without the interference of others.  The idea you come up with will be all yours because you created it alone, singled out of the crowd.  The third suggestions i liked was you have to find your own shtick.  By this he means your own voice, something that makes you stand out.  It could be months even years until the AH Ha moment hits but when it does its because you found your own voice to express.  I thought this article had good suggestions.  If you want to find out more check out the article. HOW TO BE CREATIVE

I was drawn to this image because it was a picture of a dog which reminded to of my dogs. I chose to manipulate the image by tightening the frame on the face of the dog.  By doing this it takes away all depth cues from the picture.   The body of the dog and the background are the biggest depth cues that have been taken away.  This can lead you to believe the dog a massive or just very close.  Reframing the picture also takes away the flat space behind the dog.  Removing the text and background from the image gives it a completely different character.  I believe this artist framed this picture as it was for a couple of reasons. First, by following the rule of thirds he places the eyes of the dog in visually appealing spots on the picture.  Another major aspect the artist effectively used was the use of lines.  He used lines for a variety of reasons in this picture.  He effectively uses dash mark lines to portray hair and shadows on the dog.  He also used thickened lines on the outer edges of the figure to make it more visible.  By using contrast and affinity on the dog the artist effectively showed the differences between where hair versus shadows are.  All three of the legs are contrasted making each different.  But the back leg and the rest of the body of the dog show affinity.  He also contrasts the background of the image to make the figure of the dog stand out. This picture also uses text and subtext.  The text states GRRR, implying that the dog is growling.  The text is used to give the impression of an angry dog.  However, by using subtext cues you can decide for yourself if the dog is growling.  You can use cues such as the eyes, which give a teary image, or you can use the position of the dog.  By using the cues you can decide if you think the text fits with the picture.

Brainwashed
In the article “Brainwashed” Seth Godin talks about seven layers of reinventing yourself.  I think the two most important layers are acknowledging the lizard and learn.  In the acknowledging the lizard level Godin states this is the part of our brain that worries about safety and shows anger.  Being embarrassed is the lizard’s worst fear.  When this happens “the resistance” takes over.  The resistance is the voice inside your head instructing you what to do.  The resistance lives in fear and shuts us down at the first sign or danger or humiliation.  To get past “the resistance” we must acknowledge it however by doing this we can ignore it.
Another important pillar is learning.  This pillar is the key to the other pillars.  Learning has to do with many things such as experiments and experiences.  The constant failure of shipping and learning continue to help you grow as a person and learn from your mistakes. We must forget what we think we know and instead learn what we need to learn.
These exercises can help my creative process.  By making blogs and experimenting with different programs I am learning new skills for the future.  Also by reading the articles it opens my mind up to new ideas that I can use as a foundation to build my creativity. These levels are connected with what we are doing in class because we follow “the resistance”.  We do this by doing all of our blog postings and readings to benefit our grade.  However by giving into “the resistance” we can cooperate with it and learn valuable skills for the future.

The song I chose to pick a cover for was Eminem “Not Afraid”.  I choose an artist piano interpretation of the song to compare the two.  There are many differences between the two songs the two most important ones are depth and organization.  The original song has tremendous depth compared to the piano only version.  This depth includes the use of multiple instruments.  Although the piano is only one instrument the player does an adequate job of producing different layers from the piano. The second difference between these two songs is their organization.  The original song is very organized.  The transitions between versus and the chorus are very smooth with a constant rhythm throughout the song.  However, the piano player has a very chaotic organization.  She has some organization throughout the song. But instead of following the organized versus, chorus, versus she changed the organization to solo, versus, chorus with a solo, solo, and versus.  She adds her own rhythm to the song,   another big difference between the songs is the timbre.  The personality of the song is completely different without lyrics also by changing up the organization of the song.  Because the piano part has no lyrics she tries to give the song personality by changing the rhythm and organization of her song.  Without lyrics the timbre also changes.  The original song has an aggressive presence to the song.  This is because Eminem raps his songs with emotion thus giving personality to the song.  The lyrics of this song are subjective because they can give a different meaning to anyone that listens to them.  This song is about facing your fears and not being afraid of what is to come.  The piano cover has a very different personality.  It seems to be a more upbeat, happy song.  Also the piano song is objective and subjective.  It is objective because you hear the piano part which is truthful, however different individuals can listen to the song differently thus interpret it differently.  The original song uses lyrics with are a form of text.  This is what is literally being said during the song.  However it also uses subtext.  This is because his lyrics are open for interpretation.
I like the original version of the song better because it has more depth.  I enjoy and appreciate what the piano player has done to the song it is truly creative but with only the piano the song sounds kind of bland.   The original song has abundant instruments which makes the personality of the song completely different.
