The song I chose to pick a cover for was Eminem “Not Afraid”.  I choose an artist piano interpretation of the song to compare the two.  There are many differences between the two songs the two most important ones are depth and organization.  The original song has tremendous depth compared to the piano only version.  This depth includes the use of multiple instruments.  Although the piano is only one instrument the player does an adequate job of producing different layers from the piano. The second difference between these two songs is their organization.  The original song is very organized.  The transitions between versus and the chorus are very smooth with a constant rhythm throughout the song.  However, the piano player has a very chaotic organization.  She has some organization throughout the song. But instead of following the organized versus, chorus, versus she changed the organization to solo, versus, chorus with a solo, solo, and versus.  She adds her own rhythm to the song,   another big difference between the songs is the timbre.  The personality of the song is completely different without lyrics also by changing up the organization of the song.  Because the piano part has no lyrics she tries to give the song personality by changing the rhythm and organization of her song.  Without lyrics the timbre also changes.  The original song has an aggressive presence to the song.  This is because Eminem raps his songs with emotion thus giving personality to the song.  The lyrics of this song are subjective because they can give a different meaning to anyone that listens to them.  This song is about facing your fears and not being afraid of what is to come.  The piano cover has a very different personality.  It seems to be a more upbeat, happy song.  Also the piano song is objective and subjective.  It is objective because you hear the piano part which is truthful, however different individuals can listen to the song differently thus interpret it differently.  The original song uses lyrics with are a form of text.  This is what is literally being said during the song.  However it also uses subtext.  This is because his lyrics are open for interpretation.
I like the original version of the song better because it has more depth.  I enjoy and appreciate what the piano player has done to the song it is truly creative but with only the piano the song sounds kind of bland.   The original song has abundant instruments which makes the personality of the song completely different.
